The Firm of BRIAN COLQUHOUN, HUGH O’DONNELL AND PARTNERS – now better known as BCHOD – was founded in Zimbabwe in 1948 as a regional practice with the primary objective of providing comprehensive consultancy services in civil engineering and building fields. It is now represented in Southern and Central Africa in the following locations as autonomous practices; Zimbabwe in Harare and Bulawayo; Zambia in Lusaka and Ndola and Botswana in Gaborone as a joint venture practice. Other countries in the region where the firm has registered, operated and maintained offices from time to time include Swaziland, Namibia, South Africa, Lesotho and Mozambique.

BCHOD is multidisciplinary and practices as Consulting Engineers & Project Managers in the fields of, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Building Services. The Firm in Zimbabwe is a registered member of ECZ (Engineering Council of Zimbabwe) and ZACE (Zimbabwe Association of Consulting Engineers). BCHOD’s present staff compliment in Africa is in the region of 140 of which 68 are resident in Zimbabwe. In addition to the engineering services in all appropriate disciplines, the firm employs its own technical personnel for all related survey work and geotechnical investigations. BCHOD’s progression towards a majority indigenous ownership status started in 2000 and the formal proposal was accepted by the Ministry in 2014 with the Certificate of Compliance issued in 2016, by the National, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Board.

BCHOD has a very wide client base which includes, Government Department, Municipalities, Funding Agencies, Major players in the Mining Sector, Industrial Clients, Corporates and Cooperatives and Non-Governmental Organisations. We are multidisciplinary and practice as Consulting Engineers & Project Managers in the fields of Civil, Structural, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering as well as Building Services. The Firm’s archive material shows over 5000 projects completed over 67 years in the Country. Significant buildings throughout Zimbabwe including many tall Structures since

Structural Engineering Heavy and light reinforced, precast and pre-stressed concrete, structural steel work, timber and brick buildings development works in the mining commercial and industrial sectors specialist structures and foundations Electrical Engineering Lighting and small power distribution, electrical reticulation, building management systems, security systems, standby generators & UPS systems to high rise buildings , shopping centres and institutional projects. Substation design, overhead power line reticulation ( HV & LV) , electrical services and Motor Control systems to Water and Sewage Pump stations. Mechanical Engineering Air-conditioning, mechanical ventilation, steam, compressed air, vacuum and gas services, hot and cold water, sprinklers, domestic and fire services, kitchen equipment, boilers, primarily related to Building and Institutional Projects.
